SUMMARY
The idea behind the series originated with Don King and HBO sports president Seth Abraham in October 1985 . and  announced at the TIM WITHERSPOON vs TONY TUBBS January 1986. That fight is now looked on as a prelude to the series. TIM WITHERSPOON won and went in the tournament Tubbs was given another chance in the series, but said he was recovering a injury BONECRUSHER SMITH took is place.
EDITORS NOTE
I have broke this down in to five parts, it was a complicated series with a new fighter entry at different stages so it takes a bit of unravelling. This is not a normal 8-4-2-winner, world series .

Add to that PINKLON THOMAS coming back in the series after the first stage LOSS to TREVOR BERBICK to fight MIKE TYSON before the final, i still cannot work out. I did say it was complicated!!!! So i left it out.
